AWS mark Mental Health Awareness Month in May 2024
18.06.24
From the 13th to 19th May 2024, it was Mental Health Awareness Week and this year the theme was Movement: moving more for our mental health.
At AWS, we recognise the importance of good mental health and so we ran the event across the remainder of May, not just a week! We hoped this would make the event more inclusive, allowing everyone to take part, and encourage all to become more active and develop a healthier physical and mental lifestyle.
We offered and ran the following during this event:
- Encouraged all to spend 30 minutes of working time becoming more active
- Ran two webinars – “the benefits of exercise on mental health” and “developing mental resilience”
- Held a Wear It Green Day to promote the importance of looking after our own & each other’s Mental Health
- Continued to review our approach to Mental Health at Work using the Mental Health at Work Commitment pillars
- Promoted the great benefits from your Westfield Health membership – My Gym Discounts and My Active Discounts
- Refreshed the skills and knowledge of 4 of our 9 Mental Health First Aiders
- Provided links to fitness videos that were suitable for all and could be completed at desks, indoors and outdoors
- Details of all the above were published on our dedicated Well-being Sharepoint page – which we will regularly update and will continue to publish details of future well-being events and webinars
From the event, we had an amazing response to the 30 minutes of physical activity during working time with 29 people taking this up during May.
We saw individuals from all business areas – from Projects, Operations and HR to Control Centre, Finance and Asset Optimisation – taking their pooches out on extra walks and enjoying some Vitamin D and outdoor scenery and others completing yoga and fitness classes, runs, gym sessions and bike rides. It was great to see some photos shared with us of these activities.
The next events being ran in the remainder of the year here at Ancala Water Services are Women’s Health in October 2024 and Men’s Health in November 2024.
We are looking for volunteers, partners and groups/charities to help us create these important topics to be great events just like this one!
If you would like to be involved in these events – whether it is provide ideas and suggestions of groups/ charities/ talks or fundraising events or be involved in running a particular activity for the topic – please contact the HR team at hr@ancalawater.com. We can then discuss and plan these events in the coming months to make inclusive and available for all.
